Chelsea Heier Earns Second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honors

Heier leads MU with 12.00 assists per set.

MILWAUKEE - Freshman setter Chelsea Heier was named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, while senior outside hitter Ciara Jones earned mention on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday afternoon. The pair helped the Marquette University women's volleyball team to back-to-back 3-0 sweeps over Georgetown and Villanova.

Heier notched 40 assists in the victory over Villanova on Sunday and averaged 11.50 assists per set in the two contests. The San Clemente, Calif. native helped teammates Danielle Carlson hit .455 and Jones hit .434 over the weekend. She also earned freshman of the week honors on Sept. 5 for her play at the Bluejay Invitational.

Jones led MU with 10 kills against Georgetown and had a game-high 16 kills and hit .467 (16-2-30) in MU's victory over Villanova. The Orlando, Fla., native is averaging a team-best 3.74 kills per set and currently has 942 kills in her career. It is the third weekly honor of her career.

The Golden Eagles currently sit atop the BIG EAST standings with an unblemished 5-0 record in league play and are 15-4 overall.

MU returns to action in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., against Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m. Marquette beat the Blue Raiders, 3-1, on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Al McGuire Center.
