Bailey Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Autumn Bailey is averaging a league-best 6.22 points per set in conference play.

NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore outside hitter Autumn Bailey was honored as the BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week after a pair of dominating performances in wins at Xavier and DePaul, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

Bailey posted 20 kills and 12 digs on Wednesday evening in a 3-1 win at Xavier for her 11th consecutive double-double and followed that up with 16 kills and a career-high seven service aces in just three sets at DePaul on Saturday. For the week, Bailey averaged 5.14 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .350 to go along with 2.43 digs per set, nine total aces and 0.57 blocks per frame.

The Burlington, Ontario, native leads the BIG EAST in kills, service aces and points per set with averages of 4.14 kills, 0.48 aces and 4.89 points, respectively. Through six conference matches, she is averaging 5.25 kills per set while hitting .295.

The Golden Eagles rank first or second in every major offensive category in league matches and are holding opponents to a miniscule .128 hitting percentage through six contests.

Bailey, the 2014 BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, was previously named to the league’s weekly honor roll twice this season.

Marquette (14-4, 5-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15 in a noon CT match against Butler at the Health and Recreation Complex in Indianapolis.
