Golden Eagles Set To Host Providence, Creighton

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University women's volleyball team will open a weekend slate against Providence on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. Central time, and concluding with Creighton on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. CT, hosting both matches at the Al McGuire Center.

The Golden Eagles hope to continue their current win streak, which sits at five matches and includes three, five-set victories against BIG EAST foes. MU currently holds a 17-4 overall record, and has played to a 7-2 BIG EAST record, placing the squad second in the conference standings with the second half of play slated to begin this weekend . MU is led by Taylor Louis, who has amassed 350 kills (4.43 per set) this season, and hits at a .264 clip. Louis leads the conference with 4.50 kills per set in BIG EAST competition and ranks 16th in the NCAA in total kills per set. Heading into the weekend Louis has 961 kills and is slated to become the Golden Eagles' second sophomore to reach the 1,000-kill plateau.
Redshirt sophomore Jenna Rosenthal has also helped pace Marquette, hitting at a .349 clip and tallying 171 kills. Rosenthal has hit .409 in BIG EAST play, which leads the conference and is averaging 1.24 blocks per set, which is second in the league.
Senor libero Lauren Houg leads Marquette, and is second in the BIG EAST with 4.90 digs per set. On the season, Houg has recorded 387 total digs and ranks second on MU's all-time career digs list.
Providence will enter its match with Marquette with a 1-7 record in conference play, 13-11 overall, coming off its lone conference win against St. John's last weekend. The Friars are led by Megan Onyundo who has tallied 209 kills this season. The attack from PC also features Allison Impellizeri who has tallied 197 kills while hitting .327.
Marquette's matchup with Creighton will feature the BIG EAST conference's top teams, as Creighton currently owns an 8-0 record, but will play at DePaul on Friday night. Creighton defeated Marquette, 3-0, in Omaha, Neb. on Sept. 23 in the conference lidlifer. The Bluejays are paced by Jaali Winters who has tallied 221 kills this season and is averaging 3.25 per contest. Their most efficient hitters, however, are Lauren Smith and Marysa Wilkinson who have hit .341 and .329, respectively, during the 2016 campaign.
After its match with Creighton, Marquette will travel to Villanova to begin a two-match road trip on Oct. 28.
