Volleyball Heads Across Town Tuesday to Face Milwaukee

Marquette Volleyball (20-4, 10-1 BIG EAST) at Milwaukee (8-15, 3-7 Horizon) MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team faces the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for the second time this season 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Klotsche Center. The match will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports32 with Matt Menzl and Michelle Griffin-Wenzel on the call. The Golden Eagles (20-4, 10-1 BIG EAST Conference) head into the contest winners of 13 of their last 14 matches, including a 3-1 victory over Milwaukee on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Al McGuire Center. The Panthers (8-15, 3-7 Horizon League), who lost starting setter Kayla Price for the season in that match due it a hand injury, have lost four straight and are just 3-7 in conference action. SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: CARLSON NAMED BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior Danielle Carlson was named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the league announced Monday, Oct. 29. Carlson helped Marquette to a pair of victories at Georgetown and Villanova last weekend while hitting .519 (29-2-52) with 4.14 kills and 1.43 blocks per set. The senior middle hitter recorded just two errors, with both coming in Sunday's sweep of Villanova. She led Marquette with a 16 kills against the Hoyas Friday evening and landed a match-high 13 at Villanova. It is the second time this season that a Marquette student-athlete has earned player of the week honors. Classmate Holly Mertens also earned the distinction on Oct. 1 after MU defeated Notre Dame and DePaul on the road. MARQUETTE HAS 20/10 VISION FOR THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON: Sunday's victory at Villanova marked the third-straight season the Golden Eagles have reached the 20-win plateau with at least 10 conference victories. It is only the fourth time in program history that MU has reached 20 victories since it joined NCAA Division I. Marquette's highest win total as a member of D-I was 24 in 2010. GOLDEN EAGLES SEAL BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCE: Marquette's win over the Wildcats also clinched a spot in the 2012 BIG EAST Women's Volleyball Championship, which it hosts Nov. 16-18 at the Al McGuire Center. JEZIOROWSKI NO. 2 ALL-TIME IN DIGS AT MU: Junior libero Julie Jeziorowski picked up 13 digs against Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 19 to move into the No. 2 spot on MU's career digs list. She passed Erin Freer (1,404 digs) with six digs in the first set against the Bearcats. The Crystal Lake, Ill., native set Marquette's single season record in 2011 (638 digs) and sits 96 digs away from the career program record [Jamie Mueller (2003-06; 1,567)].
