Barber and Werch Earn League Top Honors

NEW YORK--—A pair of Marquette University women’s volleyball players took home weekly awards, as Allie Barber won BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and Hope Werch took home her second Freshman of the Week honor.
The Golden Eagles went 2-0 over the past week, sweeping St. John’s and besting Seton Hall, 3-2 in a five-set marathon. Barber led the conference in weekly play in points (6.31/set), kills (5.12/set) and service aces (five). She notched a career-high in kills against Seton Hall, recording 30 at a .352 clip to go with eight digs and chipped in 11 kills in the sweep of St. John’s. On the season, Barber averages 4.98 kills/set while hitting .367. She has won weekly conference awards eight out of the 10 weeks of this season.
Werch averaged 3.06 points/set and 2.75 kills/set to go with 2.62 digs/set. She posted a double-double in the win over Seton Hall with 12 kills and 16 digs. On the season, Werch is averaging 2.27 kills/set and has made strong defensive plays, notching 2.67 digs/set.
Marquette has been well-represented in conference honors, with four different players winning and a Golden Eagle has won a weekly award each of the 10 weeks of the season.
Marquette is 11-2 in BIG EAST play which is one game behind Creighton with one head-to-head matchup remaining. The Golden Eagles will have their chance to draw even in the standings when they continue their four-match road swing at the Blue Jays Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. Central time before wrapping up the road trip at Providence Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. CT.
