Louis Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK – Marquette University women’s volleyball redshirt freshman Taylor Louis has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the league-high fifth time this season and redshirt junior Meghan Niemann was selected to the weekly honor roll after the Golden Eagles extended their win-streak to six matches last week

Louis led Marquette in two straight-set victories last week, cruising past city-foe, Milwaukee, before taking on BIG EAST travel partner DePaul in the lone BIG EAST match last week. The Skokie, Ill. native averaged 6.08 points and 5.33 kills per game on .338 hitting, and added 18 digs with two near double-doubles in the week’s matches.

This is Niemann’s third conference honor of the season as she had 2.92 points, 2.17 kills per set while hitting .480, and also added 1.50 blocks per set in MU’s wins. Against DePaul, the Jackson, Wis. native landed six kills with no errors to hit a blistering .545 clip against the Blue Demons. She also recorded five blocks.

Marquette will host league leader Creighton on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. Central time. The match will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Matt Schroeder and Matt Rodewald calling the action from the Al McGuire Center. The Golden Eagles are currently tied with Xavier in the BIG EAST standings with a 9-3 conference record.
