MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team can wrap up its first BIG EAST Conference regular season championship with a pair of victories this weekend over No. 11 Louisville and Notre Dame.

The Golden Eagles (23-4, 12-1 BIG EAST) travel to Louisville at 3:30 p.m. Central time Friday to take on U of L at Cardinal Arena before returning home for Senior Day against Notre Dame Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center. U of L and ND are currently tied with the Golden Eagles for first place in the league standings at 12-1.

Marquette seniors Danielle Carlson, Carol Henney, Kelsey Mattai, Holly Mertens and manager Keren Nass will all be honored in a post-match ceremony Sunday afternoon. Shuttles will be available following Sunday's contest to transport fans to the Bradley Center for the men's basketball home opener against Colgate at 3:30 p.m.

No. 11 LOUISVILLE [23-3 (12-1 BIG EAST) | | @UofLVolleyball]: The Cardinals have been a mainstay atop the national rankings throughout the season, currently ranking 11th in the AVCA Coaches' Poll and seventh in the NCAA Division I RPI. Louisville is led by four-time BIG EAST Player of the Week Lola Arslanbekova, who averages a league-leading 5.01 kills per set. Senior Gwen Rucker also leads the conference in blocks with 1.27 per frame. U of L is 13-4 at home this season, but has played only two matches at Cardinal Arena, where Friday's contest is scheduled to be played. Marquette has lost its last two matches against Louisville, including a 3-1 decision on Oct. 21 at the Al McGuire Center, its lone conference loss this season. Series history: U of L leads 25-4.

NOTRE DAME [19-6 (12-1 BIG EAST) | | @NDvolleyball]: Marquette handed the Irish their only loss in BIG EAST play on Sept. 29 at Purcell Pavilion, a come-from-behind 3-2 victory for the Golden Eagles. Holly Mertens led MU in that contest with a match-high 20 kills and nine blocks to help MU knock off ND. The Irish are led by sophomore outside hitter Toni Alugbue who averages 3.59 kills and 2.37 digs per set. Junior setter Maggie Brindock was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Monday after notching a triple-double in ND's win over Rutgers on Nov. 4, while libero Taylor Morey was named the league's freshman of the week. The Golden Eagles have captured the last three meetings against Notre Dame. Series history: ND leads 10-5.

Golden Eagles Outlast Irish in Five Sets
The Marquette University women's volleyball team outlasted Notre Dame in five uneven sets (12-25, 26-24, 13-25, 27-25, 15-7) Saturday afternoon at Purcell Pavilion in Notre Dame, Ind.

MERTENS EARNS CONFERENCE AND NATIONAL HONORS: Redshirt senior Holly Mertens earned BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time this season on Monday after helping the Golden Eagles to a pair of conference wins over UConn and St. John's and a sweep of Milwaukee. The Stanley, Wis., native, who was also named the National Player of the Week by the Collegiate Volleyball Update (, hit a combined .543 in the three contests with averages of 4.64 kills and 1.18 blocks per set.

She landed team highs of 18 kills against Connecticut Friday evening and 21 kills against the Red Storm on Sunday afternoon, while hitting .614 (39-4-57) in the two league matches.

MARQUETTE HAS 20/10 VISION FOR THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON: It is the third-straight season and fourth overall that the Golden Eagles have reached the 20-win plateau. MU's highest win total as a member of Division I was 24 in 2010.

• Senior Danielle Carlson needs just 10 kills to become the 12th player in MU history with 1,000 in her career.
• The Golden Eagles are 13-4 at home and a perfect 10-0 away from the Al McGuire Center.
• Marquette is receiving a season-high 49 points in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll (Nov. 5), up from 30 last week. It sits three spots outside the top 25.
• The Golden Eagles are ranked No. 36 in the NCAA Division I Ratings Percentage Index rankings, released on Nov. 5.
• Junior Julie Jeziorowski (1,515 digs) moved past Erin Freer (1,405) and sits second on MU's career digs list. She is 52 digs away from the program record of 1,567 set by Jamie Mueller (2003-06).
• Marquette has a trio of BIG EAST individual statistical leaders in Danielle Carlson (.394 hitting pct. - 15th in NCAA), Elizabeth Koberstein (11.61 assists/set - 12th in NCAA) and Lindsey Gosh (0.47 aces/set - 8th in NCAA). MU leads the BIG EAST in team hitting percentage (.280) and kills per set (14.12). It also is second in assists per set with 13.20.
Holly Mertens leads MU through 13 BIG EAST matches with 3.92 kills per set and a hitting mark of .422 (204-50-365). Mertens' hitting percentage is close to 40 percentage points ahead of the No. 2 athlete on the BIG EAST statistical standings (Carlson, .387).

• MU raised over $5,300 for the Side-Out Foundation's Dig Pink initiative during October, the most it has ever raised.
• Marquette was picked second in the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Seniors Danielle Carlson and Holly Mertens were both All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selections.
• Six Marquette players have earned AVCA All-America honors over the last two years. Carlson could become MU's first two-time AVCA All-American.
• Shymansky earned BIG EAST Conference and AVCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year honors in 2011, his second such awards after earning ACC and AVCA East Region honors in 2004.
• The Golden Eagles' BIG EAST record has improved each year under Shymansky (2009: 6-8; 2010: 11-3; 2011: 12-2).
