Danielle Carlson Named Capital One Academic All-District

MILWAUKEE – Senior Danielle Carlson of the Marquette University women’s volleyball team was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday afternoon.
Carlson, a psychology and theology major with a 3.72 grade point average, has led the Golden Eagles to a 23-4 record in 2012 and leads the BIG EAST Conference with a .394 hitting percentage. The Marshfield, Wis., native sits just 10 kills away from 1,000 in her career entering Friday’s match at No. 11 Louisville.
Carlson earned the 2011-12 BIG EAST Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award for women’s volleyball last season and is Marquette’s all-time leader in hitting percentage at a robust .354.
A 2011 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, Carlson would become the program’s first two-time All-American with repeat honors in 2012.
With Academic All-District honors, Carlson advances to Capital One Academic All-America voting, the results of which will be released on Thursday, Dec. 13.
