Marquette Inks Four to Recruiting Class

Nov. 9, 2016

MILWAUKEE— The Marquette University women’s volleyball team and head coach Ryan Theis has announced the signing of Kortlyn Henderson, Elizabeth Orf, Sarah Rose and Hope Werch to National Letters of Intent. The newcomers will arrive on campus the summer of 2017 and each will have four years of eligibility.

“We are very excited about this class, it certainly is one of the deepest classes in Marquette history,” Theis said. “We think this group offers a great mix of skill and athleticism that will add to our team.”

Henderson joins Marquette from Waco, Texas and was a two-time captain and outside hitter at University High School. She is a top-250 PrepVolleyball Senior Ace and was named a 2015 and 2016 first team All-District after setting her high school record for most kills in a game with 32 and recording the most kills in a season with 455 kills. Henderson was the district MVP runner-up as a junior and a Wendy’s High School Heisman selection in 2016. She excels in the classroom and is a three-time Academic All-District selection.

“Kortlyn brings a physical presence to the floor and is a high level athlete the will score a lot of points for us down the road,” Theis said.

Orf is a middle blocker and hails from St. Louis, Missouri where she is a four-year letterwinner at Villa Duchesne. A highly ranked recruit, she is No. 39 on PrepVolleyball Senior Ace list and was named a PrepVolleyball Club All-American. Orf owns Villa Duchesne’s career kills record with over 1,100 kills and has collected 545 digs in the past two seasons, while earning first team all-state, all-region, all-district and all-conference honors as a junior. She led her club team to first place MEQ, first place NLQ and third place at the USAV Nationals open division.

“Elizabeth is dynamic, plays high above the net and has a good arm,” Theis said. “Those are three great attributes for a middle blocker.”

Rose is a setter from Elmhust, Illinois and was a two-time captain at York Community High School. She was named a 2016 AVCA All-American nominee, a 2016 West Suburban All-Conference selection and a 2016 all-area team member. She led York Community to a 2016 regional championship and a sectional semi-final appearance. Her club team won the 17 Open in the 2016 Spring Classic and the SPVB Pre-Nationals. Through four years, Rose has amassed 2,605 assists and 865 digs.

“Sarah is terrific at getting hitters in good situations and her overall ball control skills and volleyball IQ are already at a high level, which will benefit our team,” Theis said.

As a No. 78 PrepVolleyball Senior Ace, Werch is a local product from Neenah, Wisconsin and is an outside hitter from Neenah High School. She was named an Under Armour honorable mention All-American, is a two-time first team all-State selection and a three-time unanimous Player of the Year in the FVA Conference. Werch was named the Northeast Wisconsin 2016 Player of the Year and led Neenah High School to the Division I state title for the first time since 1978 as well as four consecutive regional championships. She has tallied 1,918 kills, hit .322 and collected 1,543 digs throughout her four-year career.

“Hope's skill level will be an immediate impact on the program,” Theis said. “She is a true competitor and we are excited to get her in the gym.”
