Marquette Hosts Georgetown and Villanova

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University volleyball team returns home after a four-game road trip to host Georgetown Friday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. Central time and Villanova on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.
Both matches this weekend will be produced by the Marquette Wire and will be streamed for free on gomarquette.com or on College Sports Live, viewed through the College Sports Live app, available for iOS through the App Store or for Android devices on Google Play.
Marquette (18-8, 12-3 BIG EAST) went 1-1 over the past weekend, falling at No. 14 Creighton and sweeping Providence. For her play, sophomore Allie Barber collected her fourth BIG EAST Honor Roll nod of the season, averaging 5.30 points per set and 4.91 kills per set. The outside hitter has been a mainstay on the weekly conference awards, earning recognition in six straight weeks and nine total awards.
Setter Lauren Speckman continues to lead the BIG EAST with 11.96 assists per set and ranks in the top of the assist per set leaderboard throughout Division I competition, ranking fifth in the country. As a team, Marquette ranks 11th with an average of 13.65 per set. The squad ranks 17th for 14.33 kills per set.
The Hoyas (7-19, 1-13 BIG EAST) enter this weekend after dropping 11 straight matches, including losses against St. John's and Seton Hall over the weekend. Junior middle blocker Symone Speech is a member of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for leading the Hoyas in kills while averaging 3.71 kills per set on the season. Marquette swept the Hoyas in D.C. earlier this season.
The Wildcats' (15-10, 8-6 BIG EAST) most recent win came against Seton Hall on Nov. 3 at home but Villanova has lost three of four. Senior Allison Fitzgerald earned her fourth BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll spot while averaging a conference-best 6.29 digs per set over their last two matches. In their previous match-up, Marquette dropped a five-set marathon at Villanova, despite 25 kills from Barber.
Marquette sits at second place in the BIG EAST heading into the weekend's action. The top four teams qualify for the postseason conference tournament and with a win on Friday, the Golden Eagles will clinch a berth to the tournament, which will be hosted by MU over Thanksgiving weekend. Marquette finishes out the 2017 regular season at DePaul on Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. CT.
