Marquette Concludes Regular Season Against Notre Dame and DePaul

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team will wrap up BIG EAST Conference regular season play this weekend when it hosts Notre Dame and DePaul at the Al McGuire Center on Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m, respectively.
The Golden Eagles will welcome back all volleyball alumni and honor the current seniors before Sunday's match against the Blue Demons. MU will also host its annual Dig Pink match against DePaul.
Marquette fell to 20-8 overall and 10-2 in league play after suffering its first and second conference setbacks of the 2011 campaign last weekend at Cincinnati and Louisville. Heading into the final weekend of league play, MU is tied for second place and just one game behind conference-leader Louisville.
Notre Dame (15-9 overall, 8-4 BIG EAST) picked up back-to-back wins last weekend against Seton Hall and Rutgers. With the victories, the Fighting Irish secured a birth in the 2011 BIG EAST tournament. Notre Dame is just 5-4 away from home this season.
Freshman outside hitter Jeni Houser was named to the conference's weekly honor roll for her performances against the Pirates and the Scarlet Knights. Houser lead Notre Dame in kills both matches, averaging 3.78 kills per set while also collecting 1.00 blocks per set. Senior libero Frenchy Silva has paced the Irish on defense with 4.26 digs per set.
Marquette topped Notre Dame, 3-2, in the last meeting on Oct. 24, 2010 at the Purcell Pavilion.
Sunday's Dig Pink match against DePaul raises money for the Side-Out Foundation's fight against breast cancer. Fans will have the opportunity to pledge money on a per-dig basis or a set amount and will also have the opportunity to purchase a Marquette Dig Pink t-shirt for $10. The event will feature free admission for any breast cancer survivors and fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support.
DePaul enters the match against the Golden Eagles with a 7-20 overall mark and a 3-9 conference record. The Blue Demons beat Rutgers, 3-1, before getting swept by Seton Hall in its most recent matches. Marquette captured a 3-1 victory over DePaul last season but trails in the all-time series 29-19.
The Blue Demons are led on offense by a pair of freshmen in outside hitter Amy Lanski and setter Katie Geiger. Lanski is averaging 2.86 kills per set, while Gamsky has a 5.65 assist per set average.
DePaul is 1-7 in road matches this season with its only victory coming on Oct. 28 when it swept St. John's in straight sets. The Blue Demons will head to Syracuse on Friday before taking on MU.

Marquette will host the 2011 BIG EAST Women's Volleyball Championship at the Al McGuire Center on Nov. 18-20. The Golden Eagles have clinched a spot in the tournament and will play a quarterfinal match on Friday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.
