Bailey and Houg Named BIG EAST Players of the Week

NEW YORK - Marquette University sophomores Autumn Bailey and Lauren Houg were honored by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday afternoon as the league's offensive and defensive players of the week for women's volleyball after leading the Golden Eagles to wins over Milwaukee, St. John's and Providence.

Bailey, a sophomore outside hitter, led Marquette (22-6, 12-3 BIG EAST) with 5.40 kills and 6.10 points per set, while hitting a robust .359 in the three victories. The Burlington, Ontario native posted three double-doubles for the week to up her team-leading total to 19 through this season's first 28 matches.

She began the week by hitting .423 with 12 kills, 12 digs and four blocks in Tuesday's sweep at Milwaukee and, after posting a match-high 27 kills on Friday against St. John's, ended the week with 15 kills and 20 digs on Saturday versus the Friars.

The 2014 BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, Bailey has previously earned the offensive player of the week honor twice this season on Oct. 13 and Oct. 20. She ranks eighth in NCAA Division I with 5.33 points per set and 15th with 4.57 kills per frame.

Houg earns the first BIG EAST accolade of her career after posting 6.20 digs per set. The Plymouth, Minnesota, native contributed 28 digs in the four-set win over the Red Storm for the second-highest total of her career and chipped in 20 digs in Saturday's sweep of PC.

Houg's selection as the defensive player of the week marks the first time an MU player has captured the award, which was first given out on Sept. 29 of this season.



The Golden Eagles hit the road this weekend, beginning with a 6 p.m. Central time match on Friday, Nov. 14 at Seton Hall and will also play at Villanova on Saturday, Nov. 15 before returning to Milwaukee.
