Chelsea Heier Earns Fifth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honor

Heier averaged 14.83 assists per set against Notre Dame and DePaul.

MILWAUKEE - Freshman setter Chelsea Heier of the Marquette University women's volleyball team received her fifth BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week honor, while senior outside hitter Ciara Jones was named to the weekly honor roll, the league announced Tuesday.

Heier also garnered freshman of the week honors on Sept. 5, Oct. 10, Oct. 17 and Oct. 31, while Jones previously earned conference honor roll mention on Oct. 10.

Marquette picked up sweeps over Notre Dame and DePaul last weekend and finished the conference regular season 12-2, its best record since joining the league in 2005.  

Heier totaled 89 assists over the weekend, averaging 14.83 assists per set in both victories as MU hit .377 as a team. The freshman setter helped four MU players hit over .300 during the weekend's matches. On the season, Heier is averaging a league-best 11.81 assist per set.

In the match against the Fighting Irish, Jones tallied 18 kills and hit .739, leading Marquette to its first sweep over Notre Dame in program history. Jones led MU with 14 kills on senior day against DePaul.

Jones averaged 5.33 kills per set and 5.67 points per set over the weekend. The Orlando, Fla., native is first on the team and fourth in the BIG EAST with a season average of 3.62 kills per set.

Marquette earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament for the third time in program history and will face No. 6 Seton Hall on Friday, Nov. 18, in the BIG EAST Conference Quarterfinals at the Al McGuire Center.
