Koberstein Earns Sixth BIG EAST Weekly Honor
Nov. 18, 2013
MILWAUKEE – For her role in wins at Seton Hall and St. John’s over the weekend, senior setter Elizabeth Koberstein of the Marquette University women’s volleyball team earned mention on the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Koberstein posted 11.88 assists per set over the weekend as Marquette hit a combined .288 against the Pirates and Red Storm. On Friday at Seton Hall, Koberstein helped MU rebound from a first-set loss for a five-set victory with seven kills, 54 assists and seven digs.
The Golden Eagles (21-5, 13-1 BIG EAST), who clinched at least a share of the BIG EAST regular season championship with a victory over St. John’s on Sunday, are receiving votes in Monday’s AVCA Coaches Poll with 69 points, and sit two matches ahead of Xavier in the league standings. They are also 13th nationally in NCAA Division I RPI.
Koberstein leads the BIG EAST and ranks fifth in NCAA Division I with 11.98 assists per set on the season. The Madison, Wis., native has helped Marquette hit .285 this year, the ninth-best mark in all of NCAA Division I.
She has earned mention on the league’s weekly honor roll five times in 2013 in addition to one player of the week honor.
Marquette hosts its final regular season matches of the season this weekend as it looks for sole possession of the BIG EAST title and the tournament’s No. 1 seed. The Golden Eagles host Xavier on Friday evening before welcoming Butler on Saturday for Senior Night, during which seniors Koberstein, Julie Jeziorowski, Catherine Mayer, Courtney Mrotek, Casey Read and Rachel Stier will be honored. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.
