MU Travels to Butler and Xavier to Conclude Regular Season

Taylor Louis leads the league with 4.86 kills per set

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's volleyball team will wrap up the regular season this weekend with road trips to Butler and Xavier on Friday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. Central time and Saturday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m., respectively. Saturday's match at Xavier could have BIG EAST Tournament seeding implications on the line and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Mike Schmaltz handling play-by-play and Shannon Voors with analyst duties.

Entering the weekend, the Golden Eagles are 11-5 in league play, which is currently fourth behind Villanova and Xavier who are tied at 12-4. Creighton has locked up the regular season championship and earned the No. 1 seed.

Redshirt junior Meghan Niemann was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, after helping MU to a 1-1 record on the road, which clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament. She averaged 3.00 kills per set and hit .489 in the two matches at St. John's and at Providence with 1.50 blocks per set.

The Golden Eagles are led offensively by Taylor Louis with 4.86 kills per set, which is ranked fifth in the NCAA. Louis has put up impressive numbers all season long with nine double-doubles, 11 matches with 20+ kills and one match with 30 kills. Libero Lauren Houg leads the BIG EAST with 5.14 digs per set and is 21st in the nation.

BUTLER [ 11-18 (7-9 BIG EAST) | | @butlervb: Butler has won six of the past nine matches and is 7-9 in league action. Anna Logan leads the team with 3.04 kills per set, which is eighth in the BIG EAST, while Briana Lilly is second in the conference with 1.27 blocks and is hitting .256 this season. Marquette won the first meeting in Milwaukee, 3-1, led by 20 kills from Louis and a .306 clip. Last year each squad won on its respective home court. Series History: Butler leads 7-6

XAVIER [16-11 (12-4 BIG EAST) | | @xaviervball]: Marquette concludes the regular season the same it opened league play, against Xavier. The Musketeers are 12-4 in league play, but will face DePaul on Friday night before facing MU. Xavier won the first meeting in straight sets in Milwaukee, paced by 10 kills from Joy Miley and Meghan Niemann hit .500 with no errors. Abbey Bressler leads Xavier and is fourth in the BIG EAST with 3.71 kills per set, while Meredith Klare is averaging 4.00 digs per set, which ranks fifth. As a team, the Musketeers combine for 15.81 digs per set and is posting 13.33 kills. Series History: Marquette leads 9-6

• With a win at Providence last weekend, Marquette secured a berth to the 2015 BIG EAST Tournament hosted by Creighton, Nov. 27-28. The Bluejays won the regular season and have clinched the No. 1 seed, but 2-4 is still up for grabs between Villanova, Xavier and Marquette.

• The Jackson, Wis. native averaged 3.00 kills per set and hit .489 in the two matches at St. John's and at Providence. Niemann landed 15 kills with just one error at St. John's and totaled nine kills with no errors in a sweep at Providence. She also averaged 1.50 blocks through the two matches, totaling nine against the Red Storm.

Taylor Louis continues to be one of the best hitters in the country. She is averaging 4.86 kills per set, which leads the BIG EAST and ranks fifth in the NCAA, while Lauren Houg leads the league with 5.14 digs per set and sits 21st in the country.

Lauren Houg reached 1,000 career-digs on Oct. 26 against Milwaukee. The junior became the eighth person in program history to reach that milestone and currently ranks fifth on Marquette's all-time digs list with 1,103 career digs. In that match against Milwaukee, Houg collected 24 digs, which is the highest output in three sets by a BIG EAST player this year. Houg has 535 total digs this season, which is fourth-best all-time for MU in a season. The record is 638 set by Julie Jeziorowski in 2011.

• As a squad Marquette is establishing itself as one of the top teams in the BIG EAST Conference and sits in the top-three of six major categories. The Golden Eagles lead the league with 17.37 digs per set, which is 14th in the NCAA and totaled a season-high 96 at St. John's last weekend. MU is ranked second in hitting percentage (.250), assists, dishing out 12.92, while also second with 13.81 kills per set. and 2.37 blocks, paced by Jenna Rosenthal's 1.16 per contest and hold opponents to just a .184 hitting clip.

• Four different MU players have tallied double-doubles this season. Sara Blasier has recorded a team-leading 10 (8/28 vs. North Dakota, 8/29 vs. Dayton, 9/4 vs. Oral Roberts, 9/19 vs. IUPUI, 9/30 vs. Butler, 10/16 vs. Providence, 10/24 vs. Villanova, 10/26 vs. Milwaukee, Oct. 31 at DePaul, 11/14 at St. John's), Taylor Louis has tallied nine (9/4 vs. Oral Roberts, 9/5 vs. Miami, 9/18 vs. Wichita State, 9/19 vs. Albany, 10/2 at Villanova, 10/16 vs. Providence, 10/23 vs. Seton Hall, 11/6 vs. Creighton, 11/14 at St. John's), while Lauren Houg (9/30 vs. Butler) and Mary Nilles (9/12 vs. Northern Colorado) have each posted one.
