MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's volleyball team has earned the No. 1 seed in the 2013 BIG EAST Conference Women’s Volleyball Championship and will face fourth-seeded Butler in the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb.

The Golden Eagles (23-5, 15-1 BIG EAST) claimed the top seed by virtue a 15-1 record in conference action, a full three-matches ahead of Creighton and Xavier, both of whom ended league play at 12-4.

Marquette won its first regular season conference championship as a member of NCAA Division I and will face the Bulldogs (24-7, 11-5 BIG EAST) for the third time this season on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles topped Butler 3-1 in each meeting this year, the most recent of which came on Saturday evening at the Al McGuire Center.

This season marks the fourth time in as many years that MU has advanced to the BIG EAST semifinals. Marquette made its first trip to the BIG EAST title match last season, but fell to then-No. 10 Louisville in a sweep at the Al McGuire Center.

Creighton and Xavier have earned the second and third seeds, respectively, and will play in the second semifinal match on Friday following Marquette's match with Butler.
