Nov. 24, 2015

NEW YORK—Marquette University women’s volleyball redshirt freshman Taylor Louis and redshirt junior Meghan Niemann have been selected to the 2015 First Team All-BIG EAST Conference team, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m happy for Taylor and Meghan to be recognized by the conference and I certainly think that they are deserving of their awards after consistently producing points for us over the course of the season,” head coach Ryan Theis said.

Louis was a unanimous selection to the first team and earns her first all-conference award after she led Marquette and the BIG EAST with 4.86 kills per game and 540 total kills, which is the third-most kills in a season by an MU player.  She also recorded a league-best 5.27 points per set and was the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week once, while earning five BIG EAST Freshman of the Week awards.

The Skokie, Ill. native tallied 20-or-more kills in 11 matches this season, with one 30-kill match in a victory at Missouri State in September. She also recorded nine double-doubles and had just four matches that she did not reach double digits in kills.

Niemann picks up her third straight first team all-conference honor after averaging a team-high .335 hitting percentage overall and a league-leading .382 clip, with just 15 total errors in BIG EAST Conference matches. The Jackson, Wis. native is averaging 1.00 blocks per set, but has 1.17 blocks in league play, which is fifth overall, and has 111 total blocks in 2015. She was named BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week twice this season.

Marquette has earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament, which begins Friday, Nov. 27 in Omaha, hosted by Creighton University. MU will take on the No. 1 seed Bluejays on Friday at 12:30 Central time live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports GO.
