Marquette Volleyball Signs Four to National Letters of Intent

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette women's volleyball team has announced the signing of four athletes to the National Letters of Intent. Danielle Carlson (Marshfield,Wis.), Anne Czarnecki (Bettendorf, Iowa), Carol Henney (Burlington, Wis.), and Kelsey Mattai (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) will join the Golden Eagles for the 2009-10 season.
Danielle Carlson, a four-time letterwinner at Marshfield (Wis.) High School, was the top hitter in her conference over the last three seasons, tallying .340, .445, and .405 hitting percentages during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, respectively. In addition to earning first team all-conference and third team all-state recognition during 2008, she earned first team all-conference and second-team all-state honors in 2007.
Anne Czarnecki was a two-time letterwinner at Greenbrier (Ga.) High School before transferring to Pleasant Valley High School (Bettendorf, Iowa). Czarnecki earned her third letter as a senior when she was selected as team captain and MVP, while leading the team in kills (289), attack percentage (35.1%), blocks (80) and aces (48). Czarnecki also led the MAC conference in blocks per game (1.06) and was third in the conference in kills (3.41) and aces (0.81) per game, earning her first team all-conference recognition. In 2007, she was named first team all-area and all-region, while earning a selection as an alternate on the 2007 USA Volleyball girls Youth National A2 Training Team.
Kelsey Mattai earned four letters at White Bear Lake Area High School (Vadnais Heights, Minn.). In 2008, she was nominated as an Under Armor High School All-American, named to Prep Volleyball's Top Senior Aces in the U.S. and the FAB 50 List. Mattai set school records for career blocks, blocks per game, and career kills during her senior season. Other honors earned by Mattai include all-conference and all-state honors in 2007 and 2008, as well as being named team MVP in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Carol Henney (Burlington, Wis.) comes to Marquette after being named to the AVCA 2008-09 Under Armour All-America High School Volleyball Team. On the 48-member team, she is one of only two players to have signed with a BIG EAST institution. A 6'1" middle blocker from Burlington Catholic Central High School, Henney was elected all-conference all four years, and earned all-county recognition as player of the year during her sophomore and senior seasons. Henney tallied 1,530 kills, 392 solo blocks, 370 block assists, 152 aces, and 236 digs as a middle blocker.
In her final year at Catholic Central, Henney was ranked 79th in the nation by prepvolleyball.com, while earning first team all-state honors and selection to the Division 4 All-State Tournament Team. She also was named first team all-conference, all-county player of the year, and Burlington Standard Press Player of the Year.
