Large Crowd Sees Volleyball's Departure for NCAAs

Marquette will make its NCAA debut Friday afternoon.

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University pep band and spirit squad, along with a large group of fans, administrators, coaches and student-athletes, provided a warm send-off to the women's volleyball team Wednesday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center as it headed for its first NCAA tournament appearance in program history.


Student-athletes from the men's and women's basketball, women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse and women's tennis teams were on hand to cheer on their classmates as they began their trek to Champaign, Ill., for a first round match against Western Kentucky.

The Golden Eagles will face WKU in the first round of the tournament at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Huff Hall in Champaign. Should MU advance it would face the winner of No. 3 Illinois/Central Michigan in the second round Saturday at 7 p.m.
