Barber, Rosenthal and Speckman Earn All-Region Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A trio of Marquette University women's volleyball players have earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region honors, announced on Tuesday. For the second consecutive year Jenna Rosenthal was named to the All-East Coast Region team and was joined by first time honoree Allie Barber, while Lauren Speckman earned an All-East Coast Region honorable mention honor.
Barber, the BIG EAST Player of the Year, had a breakthrough sophomore season in which she led Marquette with 4.71 kills per set, which ranks ninth in the NCAA. She recorded double-digit kills in 30-of-32 matches this season and compiled a .328 hitting percentage. The Cedarburg, Wisconsin native was a unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST honoree and was named AVCA/Sports Imports National Player of the Week. Barber tallied 546 total kills in 2017, the third-most in a season in MU program history.
Rosenthal earns all-region honors for the second straight season after averaging 2.55 kills per set with a .330 hitting percentage, while notching 1.07 blocks per set. The Fond du Lac, Wis. product earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors and was selected to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team. Rosenthal has 379 career assisted blocks after three season at Marquette and will likely break the career record of 412 before ending her career as a Golden Eagle.
In her first season as Marquette's starting setter, Speckman jumped right in and dished out 1,312 assists, ranking ninth in MU single season records en route to earning Honorable Mention All-EAST Coast Region accolades. She dished out 11.61 assists per set, ranking 12th among NCAA Division I players and led the BIG EAST. The San Jose, California native was selected to the All-BIG EAST second team and handled out 50-or more assists on 10 occasions this season.
All three Golden Eagles now advance to the AVCA All-American ballot, which will be announced Wednesday, Dec. 13.
